The Urban Food Movement (TUFM) is a logistics-driven nonprofit dedicated to RESCUING & eliminating food waste by transforming premium retail surplus into life-saving nutrition. Our mission is built on the philosophy of "Food as Medicine," ensuring that high-quality, organic produce and lean proteins reach the most vulnerable, "invisible" populations who are often bypassed by traditional social safety nets.
Our Core Strategy
We operate a circular, zero-waste model that bridges the gap between radical food waste and systemic health inequity. By acting as a professional recovery partner for retailers such as Whole Foods, Sprouts, and Wayfield Foods, we divert thousands of pounds of nutrient-dense food from landfills.
Through our flagship "Hero Delivery" program, we eliminate the barriers of mobility and transportation by bringing groceries directly to the doorsteps of homebound seniors and veterans in high-density facilities like William Booth Towers and Briarcliff Summit. This model combines high-impact nutrition with vital wellness checks, addressing both physical hunger and social isolation.
The 2026 Vision: Scaling for Legacy
As we move into a pivotal growth phase, our mission is focused on three primary impact pillars:
Health Equity: Empowering residents to manage chronic illnesses like diabetes and hypertension through a curated, nutrient-dense diet.
Environmental Stewardship: Scaling our diversion efforts from 10,000 pounds in 2025 to 65,000 pounds in 2026 to drastically reduce local methane emissions.
Logistical Innovation: Building a professionalized "cold-chain" infrastructure, including a refrigerated cargo fleet, to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of perishable "medicine-grade" food across South Fulton and Greater Atlanta.
At TUFM, we believe a city is only as strong as the health of its elders. We are not just saving food; we are building a permanent infrastructure for dignity, health, and environmental restoration—creating a zero-waste community where no neighbor is left behind.
